Dear Friends and Colleagues

Thank you for all the mails and support we have received from you after the catastrophic earthquake on Saturday 16th of April.

Despite the severe damage in all aspects in the Coastal provinces Manabi and less in Esmeraldas and Guayas, all major tourism attraction in Ecuador are intact and fully-operational across the Amazon, Andes, Galapagos Islands and the southern part of the coast.

However our thoughts and grief are with the victims of this earthquake. Till now, more than 650 people died,  more than 4500 are injured and about 30’000 people are registered as homeless. Many coast villages still remain with limited access. People urgently need drinking water, food, hygienic articles, cloths, medicine, blood, among others. In this grief we experienced the solidarity and generosity of Ecuadorian people who immediately took action for support. Also all our colleagues in the office including those working at the Hosteria Pantavi have collaborated immediately to buy the most urgent required products and has sent this to the coast. However we feel it is only a very first step as it will take a long time for the affected areas to recover. Today, first aid support is urgently needed, tomorrow the areas have to be cleaned up and reconstructed. It will take months and years till everything will operate normal again.

QUITO - Best South American Destination

posted Sep 11, 2014, 2:36 PM by Marjolein Rientjes A   [ updated Oct 16, 2015, 5:10 PM ]

On 09th August 14, the travel award for best South American Destination goes for the 2nd time to Quito. Quito came out on top against other famous destinations as Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires or Santiago de Chile.

Quito attracts with its well-restored old colonial town, UNESCO world heritage. The colonial town is full of picturesque buildings and cobble-stone streets. Jewel of it is the street LA RONDA with lots of small galleries, museums and restaurants.

Another attraction of Quito are the many city parks where locals and foreigners love to meet for a walk or a pick nick or for exercising some sport as a Yoga session or a football or Ecu Volleyball game. Some of the parks do even have a small lake where people can paddle in boats.

The city is a city full of hills, so visitors can enjoy marvelous views over Quito from different places of the city, such as from the Panecillo statue, from Itchimbia or from Cruz Loma; reachable by the cable car.

So how about choosing Quito as your next travel destination?!
