Our Grading Definition


             
 Trekking     A moderate trek is suitable for those with a reasonable fitness and good health. You walk daily between 4 and 7 hours and most treks are partly trails and partly cross-country. Experience is not necessary but some acclimatization we recommend.   For this kind of treks we recommend some previous trekking experience, especially with altitude and cross-country walking. The hiker needs an good physical condition, some flexibility and has to reckon with 6 - 8 walking hours per day.   For those who look after a physically challenge. You need an excellent physical condition, sufficient acclimatization and good stamina. The experienced trekker has to count with 6 to 9 walking hours per day, combined with ascent of a small or big volcano in which you may need full trekking equipment. You have to walk on difficult paths, ford rivers and negotiate with boggy sections.
             
 Climbing   We consider an moderate climb when is less than 5000m. Experience on ice or rock climbing is not necessary and in some cases a rope may be used to secure some exposed places. The climber needs a good physical condition.     More than 5000m. Experience in high altitude and use of climbing gear such as crampons, rope and ice axe is required. A challenging climb usually is on a glacier, you may have to cross some crevasses, the slopes are not so steep (max. 45%) and full gear is used on all climbs. Very good physical condition is required.    More than 5000m. Technical climbs with steep snow slopes and exposed ridges; you may encounter some crevassed sections. Experience in high altitude and proper use of equipment as well as some knowledge of mountaineering techniques are required. An excellent physical condition is a must.
